From Tee to Cup: The Golf Paintings

In January of 2010, I began my first attempt at using an airbrush in a series of ten paintings depicting the life of a golf ball from tee to cup. As someone who has always been interested in sports, I found it natural to use sports-related objects as the subject matter for my paintings. My goal for this series was to combine a hyper-realistic painting style with the use of a camera that was capable of capturing both fast-moving situations and still images. It took a number of redoes, but I finally completed the series in 2015. In 2014, two of my paintings, #1 and #4, were selected for a group exhibition titled "The Art of the Game" at the Lamont gallery at Philips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. The following year, I held a solo exhibition titled "From Tee to Cup" at the Hampden Gallery, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, which featured nine paintings from the series. I completed the final painting, #10, the following year. In 2018, I was thrilled to have #3 selected as the centerfold winner for the January/February edition of Artscope magazine.
